I find it exciting and sometimes challenging when I receive requests for various workshops because it gives me an opportunity to research and learn new things. I am equally as excited to develop workshops based on my specific areas of interest. After I develop the workshops, I have the opportunity to interact with various and diverse populations as I teach transformative strategies and techniques through interactive, creative, and experiential methods.
I develop workshops for most ages and for personal and professional development. Whether you have a training focus for your professional team or a need for family or friend bonding and strengthening, share your expected outcome with me and I will do the rest!
STRANGE FRUIT: Examining the Impact of Racism in America
A 3-hour interactive presentational workshop that revisits and processes the past injustices against African Americans as they were captured from their native lands, forced into slavery, and lynched, beaten, burned, and otherwise oppressed, and the impact of present-age racism individually and societally.
Through a 40-minute PowerPoint and performing arts presentation, which includes singing and historical reenactments, the facilitator/presenter guides the participants through traumatic and victorious incidents in history from racist enslavement of Africans to their accomplishments in the face of racism, as well as reflections on the 21st century murders of Black citizens of the United States of America.
In the remainder of the workshop, through the frameworks of transformative learning theory and aesthetic education and aspects of visual and performing arts, participants have the opportunity to experience, process, and discuss the impact of racism; to examine awareness of self and society regarding racial disparities, assumptions, challenges, and oppression; to consider making a commitment for shifts in thinking and behavior; and to identify ways to integrate anti-oppressive behavior into social norms and practices, personally and professionally.
Cultural Adaptability
A half-day interactive workshop focusing on the process and techniques of adapting to workplace culture. The participants delve into their own values, beliefs and norms, as well as those of their workplace, and then they process how to make adaptations to create a congenial and productive relational work environment. This workshop is great for supervisors, managers and their departments.
Taking Your Professionalism to the Next Level
A half-day interactive workshop combining self-reflection with strategies and techniques to help promote professional advancement. The participants examine their personal and professional strengths, weaknesses, and goals, and then learn how to integrate areas of empowerment, accountability, and marketing strategies into their daily workplace presentations and interactions. Participants develop and present 3-5 minute presentations and receive peer and facilitator critiques.
How Effective Is Your Networking?
A 2-hour interactive workshop focusing on how to build relationships for the purpose of sharing ideas, information, opportunities, and resources, and then how to maintain those relationships and effectively help others to make personal and professional connections. The participants explore self-awareness, self-assessment, self-confidence, positive interactions, and guidelines for effective networking.
Sharing Your Family Stories
A 3-hour interactive workshop combining family beliefs, traditions, and customs with storytelling. The participants learn about other families, while exploring their own family structure and the traditions within their immediate and extended families, and then how their family fits into a larger community.
Each family unit has the opportunity to create a colorful and creative quilt patch based on their own family structure and history, and then tell a short story about the patch as they connect their patch to other family patches to create a full community quilt. This is offered on Saturdays only and works best in a community setting such as a church, library or community center where the community quilt can be displayed. Bring your cameras to this workshop to take lots of pictures every step of the way!
